Welcome to 2024 and a new era for Wakefield FC

13 Jan

With the new season just around the corner, it is a great time to update everyone on the latest club news.

The big news..

We are in the process of incorporating Waimea Plains under the Wakefield FC umbrella. Although for many years there has been unofficial involvement from Wakefield FC in assisting Waimea Plains, mainly through governorship & coaching, the clubs have made the decision that it is in the best interests of both clubs to become one club going forward. This allows for the natural progression from juniors to youth to senior football, but also opens up more opportunities for utilising the skillsets of people involved in both clubs to best promote the game within the region and therefore the advantages of playing for Wakefield FC.

Growth of the Waimea South community and also the planned changes around our grounds, will also help continue the growth of junior, youth & seniors players, and ideally create the opportunity for a senior women's team.

On that note..

Registrations for all players are now open for the upcoming season, please register here. With the lowest registration fees within our region, enabling anyone wanting to play the beautiful game the opportunity to play, and with some of the best facilities and fields to play on, why wouldn't you get registered as soon as possible and get involved. For those unaware, we are also currently running youth / senior summer football sessions on a Thursday night from 6:30pm at Wakefield Domain, so come along and get in some early season fitness or catch up with the players that are participating.

Assistance required..

With a few of our previous volunteers moving on to new opportunities both in NZ and overseas, we are on the lookout for keen individuals to assist with many aspects of the club.

Firstly the opportunity to help with individual teams, whether that is coaching or managing a team or assisting the existing coaches, then please let us know. There are courses coming up for coaching at all levels and the club is happy to help anyone who is keen to progress.

Secondly the opportunity to help with refereeing, whether that is with your child's team in the junior or youth ranks, or whether at a senior level. Again, there are courses coming up that the club can help facilitate you getting involved. There are a number of youth players looking at doing these courses, as they are a great way to get a better understanding of the game and improve your own ability to play the game.

Both of the two opportunities mentioned are roles that can be underappreciated, but shouldn't be and are certainly not by our club, these are roles that are vital to our club and the sport to be played, so please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to assist, thanks very much in advance.

And there are changes and opportunities on our committee also..

Are you keen to be the next President, Treasurer, Secretary, Sponsorship Coordinator, Gear Coordinator, Bar Manager, Website Guru, or  Tournaments Co-ordinator. There are many varied roles that are both challenging and fulfilling within our committee (don't be alarmed, we're not looking at replacing everyone on the committee). With our AGM coming up in March, if you are not looking at becoming a coach or manager or referee, then please consider joining the committee to help the club continue its growth.

2024 is going to be a fantastic season for Wakefield FC
